We're thrilled to be partnering with Michigan Audubon this winter! Together, we’re raising funds to support bird conservation efforts and increase awareness about the impact of sustainable practices on our local ecosystems. By donating monetarily or through artwork by Brian Fritz, you’re helping to preserve Michigan’s habitats for native bird species. Join us in this meaningful collaboration for Michigan’s wildlife!

Our connection to birds at Sandhill Crane Vineyards is endless! Watching the Sandhill Cranes land in field next to the winery is where Norm was first inspired to name the winery after them. You can see Sandhill Cranes often, even sometimes in the winter, when visiting the winery and when visiting the winery and Michigan Audubon's Phyllis Haehnle Memorial Sanctuary only a few minutes away. Not only will you see the cranes but we also have a family of turkeys with us for several years and often times see woodpeckers, blue birds, sparrows, swallows, hawks, and many more only for you to discover!

Birding helps us connect with nature and one another through stories and excitement!

My name is Brian Fritz and I’m an artist, cyclist, singer-songwriter and graphic designer based in Howell, MI. I’ve been making and selling art since at least 2014, but my earliest memories are of drawing spaceships with magic marker, so I’ve been doing this for as long as I can recall. I specialize in birds and landscapes in acrylic, but I also love working in watercolor, ink, pastel, and block prints. I am inspired by nature and the outdoors, getting outside whenever possible. And color. I LOVE COLOR!

Why all the birds?

It’s a bit of a long story, but the gist of it is that birds mean freedom to me. Their freedom and ability to move when they need to inspired me to break out of an abusive relationship, to recover, to reach out to people, fall in love, and to chase my dreams. If I didn’t have birds as that symbol of hope, I don’t know if I could have made it out and I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today.

In my travels and journeys as an artist, I’ve found that birds speak to other people in very much the same way. They’re an amazing language of symbols and our relationship to birds and the natural world in general fascinates me.
